ICOMOS Serbia: "Heritage and Science / Contribution of Science and Technology to the Conservation of Cultural Heritage"

This year the ICOMOS National Committee of Serbia decided to mark the International Day for Monuments and Sites on April 22, because of the Orthodox Easter (17-20 April) which was celebrated as a National Holiday in Serbia.

ICOMOS Pakistan: Heritage Day Commemorated at NED City Campus

Pakistan_photo_eventThe event for the World Monuments Day was celebrated on 18 April 2009 at the NED City Campus, also serving as the National Secretariat of International Council of Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) formally. This day is celebrated worldwide to look after architectural heritage including monuments, group of buildings and sites. ICOMOS Pakistan Chapter commemorates the international day on 18th April annually and organizes several programmes focusing on heritage issues. ICOMOS Pakistan Chapter was also felt proud to launch the National ICOMOS website by Dr. Kaleemullah Lashari.

ICOMOS China: Result of the Ming Dynasty Great Wall Investigation Announced

On the occasion of April 18th, the International Day for Monuments and Sites, the State Administration of Cultural Heritage and the State Bureau of Surveying and Mapping jointly announced the result of their phase I research and surveying work for the Great Wall which had started in 2006, and declared the length of the Ming dynasty Great Wall: 8851.8 km.
The Director General of the SBSM, Mr. Xu Deming, announced this result to the public at the foot of the Badaling section of the Great Wall. This is the first time that the length of the Ming Dynasty Great Wall has been accurately measured out. Representatives from the Chinese People's Political Consultative Congress, the State Ministry of Culture, Beijing Municipal Government, Unesco Beijing and Foreign Embassies, together with over 300 people witnessed this important moment.
